Design of the Week--"I'm Changing--Changing!!"

Each week, we post a limited-edition design, to be sold for exactly 7 days, then replaced with another!
This week...a Kirby Klassic with a twist!
It's one of the Third Eye black light posters from the early 1970s, featuring The Silver Surfer and Quasimodo in an explosion of "Kirby Krackle" energy effects!
Besides the astounding Jack Kirby/Frank Giacoia illustration itself, the bright fluorescent coloring is what makes it a perfect graphic piece for t-shirts and other collectible goodies!
It just screams "LOOK AT ME!"
But, it'll stop screaming next Friday, when it's replaced by something else, so grab it while you can!

SuperDuper Cat (plus SuperDuper Mouse & Cosmo Cat)

No, not Streaky the Supercat currently appearing in DC Comics, this "Super Cat" (renamed "SuperDuperCat" by Atomic Kommie Comics™) was originally published in the late 1950s by now-defunct Ajax/Farrell Publications appearing in several titles including a four-issue run of his own book.
(There was a tidal wave of costumed comic-book critters after the success of Mighty Mouse in the 1940s.
Super-powered mice, dogs, cats, rabbits, bears, worms, even bugs, ran amok in four-color funnies for almost a decade!)
He joins our other classic funny-animal heroes Cosmo Cat and SuperDuper Mouse in our Tykes, Toddlers & Tiny Tots™ G-rated collection of bibs, infant bodysuits/creepers/onesies, infant/toddler t-shirts and kids' tees as well as diaper bags and other useful goodies.
We have over three dozen different kid-friendly vintage designs including circuses, funny animals, spacemen, magicians, robots and cute monsters, all perfect as birthday or back-to-pre-school / kindergarten presents for your little one! And your tyke will look soooo cute in them!

Jessica Alba's lost tv series...Now on DVD!

The first tv series starring Jessica Marie Alba (usually in a swimsuit) is finally on DVD!
Flipper: the New Adventures: Season 1 is now available as one of MGM-TV's "Manufacture on Demand" DVDs for movies and tv series that MGM feels wouldn't sell as mass-market items, but could sell as limited-release DVD-R releases (like the Warner Archive dvds).
Hopefully, if it sells well enough, MGM might issue a blu-ray version...
Note: This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply.
This disc is expected to play back in DVD Video \"play only\" devices, and may not play in other DVD devices, including recorders and PC drives.
Interestingly, the series has been released in Japan as a mass market item (albeit as half-season sets...)
I am ordering the MoD set, but I'm also looking into getting the Japanese sets (used, if possible), since I have a multi-region player which can handle the Region 2 dvds.

Comics Meet Dance: "Hapless Hooligan in 'Still Moving'"

It's fascinating when live theater and comics (books or strips) combine into a new..."mutation" (for lack of a better word)...
Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic artist Art Spiegelman collaborates with Pilobolus artistic director Michael Tracy and dancers to make Hapless Hooligan in "Still Moving" -- a noirish love story told in the style of early comics.
Commissioned by the Hopkins Center at Dartmouth College, and featuring Pilobolus dancers interacting live with Art's drawings (animated by Hornet's Dan Abdo and Jason Patterson), "Still Moving" tells the tragicomic tale of Hap and Lulu, separated in life and reunited after death.
Tony-winning sound designer Rob Kaplowitz assembles a collage score comprised of obscure cabaret tunes and early jazz hits to create a captivating atmosphere in this remarkable blend of comics and dance.

It's moving to the Joyce Theatre in NYC this week...

Believing you should be properly-attired when attending the theatre, Atomic Kommie Comics™ has put together a special "Secret Chic" collection featuring Happy Hooligan, the comic strip character who inspired the new production, on t-shirts (including organic cotton), mugs, magnets, iPad / messenger bags, and other goodies!

Now, if only the Broadway-bound Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark production could get underway...

Infra-Man: the Man BEYOND Bionics!

Through my formative (read "teen") years, summertime was when I would head for 42nd Street in Manhattan for double and triple-feature afternoons at a tacky grindhouse theatre! (yeah, I was [and still am] a nerd)
One of my favorites, which kept rotating into the second and third-run theatres for years, was Infra-Man!
Here's the American trailer for it's 1976 release...

Since such live-action rubber-suit superheroics had been limited to tv (Particularly UltraMan and SpectreMan) up to this point, it was a real treat to see it up on the big (or at least larger than my tv) screen!
It was the height of the '70s kung-fu flick craze,  so the hero was not only armed with weapons and powers, but could kick monster as with fists (and feet) of fury!
Plus, the villain of the pic...was a villainess (an extremely cute one) called "Dragon Mom", which I suspect was a mistranslation of the character's original name "Elzebub"!
As for the plot, I'll leave it to the kool guys at BadMovies.Org to describe it...
Make sure that you are sitting down for this.
...after sleeping through the last ice age Princess Dragon Mom wakes up.
She is dismayed to find what was once her kingdom is now absolutely infested with humans and sets out to make them her slaves.
Lucky for us that Professor Chan just finished developing the Infra-Man and Rayma immediately volunteers to become a super hero worthy of most French fashion shows.
Battling through dozens of monsters with kung fu, laser beams, and explosive kicks is what being Infra-Man is all about.
Some of the fight scenes are absolutely priceless and the really fun thing is this: when not destroying stuff the evil mutants all stand around in a room dancing (badly)...
(Read the entire review for much more snarky fun)

The 42nd Street of my youth is long gone, Disneyfied into a California-style tourist trap.
But, to relive the memories my wayward teens as well as of this classic of weird cinema (and to add to my burgeoning tacky t-shirt collection), I produced a dark t-shirt for myself with the American release poster emblazoned on it.
My film-going buds wanted to know where I got the shirt, and this led to my setting up the first Atomic Kommie Comics™ t-shirt store, where Infra-Man can now be found in the Pop-Art Martial Arts™ section on shirts, mugs, magnets, iPad / messenger bags, etc.!
Recently, I branched out to create another on-line store using a vendor who could do bigger images on products. This led to the Summer SuperHeroes & Spies shop featuring (you guessed!) Infra-Man!

If you're into GREAT bad movies with good graphics...grab an Infra-Man goodie from either store (While I grab Dragon Mom)!
